Britannica Taps Ian Grant to Head UK Operations
Former DK executive to grow print and new-media businesses
CHICAGO, August 17, 2006
Encyclopaedia Britannica, Inc. today announced that it has appointed experienced publishing executive Ian Grant as managing director of its British operations. He will be responsible for business strategy, publishing partnerships and the distribution of Britannica products in the United Kingdom, Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
Grant has extensive experience in both print and electronic publishing. As publishing director of Dorling Kindersley Ltd, London, he spearheaded the company’s early efforts in home-reference trade publishing and illustrated non-fiction. Later, as group business director, he established DK subsidiaries in Europe.
Grant later become a partner in Two-Can Publishing, where he developed children’s educational and trade non-fiction titles in book and multimedia formats. After the company’s sale to Zenith Entertainment, he served simultaneously as managing director of Two-Can and as publishing director of Zenith Entertainment Ltd, creating new television-related titles. He also established Two-Can’s US subsidiary and served as its president.
