Press Release
A First for the UK Educational Market
LONDON -- (PRESSBOX.co.uk) -- December 19, 2005
UK schools subscribing to Britannica Online School Edition (BOLSE) now have access to the country’s first online encyclopedic
resource that can precisely tie Britannica’s learning material to the UK curriculum standards. This is seen as a major advancement
in the online publishing sector.
In partnership with one of the world’s leading educational software developers, teachers can access the EdGate Curriculum Matrix
which lets them search by Key Stage (covering 2, 3 & 4), subject and keyword. This allows them to find exactly
which Britannica Student articles can be used in the classroom activities.
The early response from teachers has been extremely positive with many schools planning for BOLSE to be an even more
integral part of lesson planning in 2006.
Caroline Kennard, Director of Online Marketing and Sales (EMEA) said
We see this as being a huge advancement for schools throughout the UK. Not only will they be able to use our material
but they’ll also be able to ensure its going to achieve their classroom objectives. We’re happy to be able to offer
a new feature that is unrivalled by other providers that will bring online products even further into the classroom environment.
This latest advancement comes in addition to a range of improvements that have been made to BOLSE within the last 12 months.
These include the complete restructuring of the website layout and adding separate user interfaces specifically catered
for three different stages of learning.
